Yoko Shimomura and Video Game Orchestra feature in Final Fantasy XV trailer
Today, Square Enix unveiled a new trailer for Final Fantasy XV in preparation for the Tokyo Game Show 2014. Giving a hint of the music we can expect from the game, the trailer features romantic orchestral music with a special focus on piano and strings, including some nods to the series’ “Prelude”.
Shota Nakama has confirmed that the music for the trailer was written by Yoko Shimomura and performed by the Video Game Orchestra, with Livan Chevalier serving as the solo pianist. This year, Nakama formed SoundtRec Boston to further pursue video game recordings, after landing gigs on Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII and Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 Remix.

VGO on this one too? Goodness, snatching up all the soundtracks. I really loved the track too, much better and more varied than “Omnis Lacrima”. It’s got me that much more excited for the game.
Hmm, not sure about the music. I quite like it and about halfway through it does have a certain royal atmosphere befitting the game’s theme, but the beginning sounds too much like the rhythm to ‘Blinded By Light’ and from 1:10 it sounds like Hamauzu’s ‘Battle Theme Ex’ (0:41) for Unlimited SaGa.
Looking forward to this much more so than I was for FFXIII (first game) in terms of music. It’ll be interesting to see how it turns out as a whole. I expect lots of piano focus on the OST
Sounds good so far!
The music sounds very nice! The VGO did an excellent job performing this and I am looking forward to the soundtrack release.
I think I’m hooked on the second half of that music. Very catchy.
By the way, is Somnus still supposed to be in this? Or has the 8 year wait seen it discarded?
I’m crazy about the music in the second half of this trailer as well – so excited to hear Shimomura’s full score!
