Overview
Hopeful Weeds is the name given to Yasunori Mitsuda’s fan club. During the time period in which the fan club has been established, Yasunori Mitsuda has put out various volumes of CDs, each containing two tracks, for his fans’ listening pleasure. Featuring two original piano-based compositions, let’s see what the fourth volume has to offer!
Body
The album opens with “Gantoku Line”. This is a beautifully composed piano piece that opens with sound effects akin to a train running on its track. It’s a very touching piece and one that I revisit frequently. Once again, Mitsuda uses this series of albums to demonstrate one of his personal strengths.
The second piece is “It’s 9 AM, We’re on Holiday, and the Weather is Clear”. Despite its very complicated title, it, too, is also a simplistic piano piece. Featuring nature sound effects, like a running brook and bird chirps, it offers a very calming and emotional melody.
Summary
These two pieces are great examples of Mitsuda composing simplistic piano pieces that really touch your heart. While they may not be as complex as other composers who feature the piano, they are way more touching and emotional, to me.
