John Robert Matz releases For the King Original Soundtrack

Composer John Robert Matz (Artemis) has recently released his latest soundtrack, For the King. The game, which saw an early access release last year on Steam, is a strategy RPG about protecting the kingdom of a recently-assassinated king from invaders. The soundtrack incorporates instruments and arrangements in sync with the game’s Renaissance influences, or in “bardic” style, according to the album’s Bandcamp description.

“For The King” is an thrilling musical adventure to the medieval land of Fahrul, a country in turmoil after the death of its monarch,” says Matz. “Drawing in equal parts from early and Renaissance music, with a healthy dose of folk instruments and techniques, I sought to weave an intimate musical tapestry to accompany your quest through Fahrul, like a troupe of minstrels might accompany the telling of a legendary saga.”

The soundtrack is available on iTunes, Spotify, and Bandcamp.

A native and lifelong Texan, I currently work in software education while contributing news, reviews, and interviews to VGMO on the side. I love the feeling that comes with the discovery of a brand new soundtrack, and always look forward to the next rekindling of that excitement. Outside of VGMO, I enjoy playing piano, listening to classical music and film scores, and trying to go unnoticed in any stealth RPG I can find.
