Overview
The Andromeda EP is the most recent release by Sprite Recordings, a label founded by cittan* (Fumihisa Tanaka). This album features original tunes composd by Takahiro Eguchi of SuperSweep together with cittan*. How does the overall album sound?
Body
The opening track is also the title track. “Andromeda,” featuring vocals by Hotaru, is composed by Takahiro Eguchi and features many of his signature soundscapes. The melody is quite catchy with the vocals working quite well with the style, even though the vocals may be a bit too high pitch for some. The blend of invigorating beats, ethereal accompaniment, and vocals create a fantastic atmosphere and really leads off the album quite nicely. There is also an instrumental version featured at the end of the album for those who may prefer it.
“drive/70days” is another tune composed by Takahiro Eguchi and takes on a very different approach. It is a slow electronic piece featuring beautiful synthesizer tones, acoustic, and piano blended with choppy vocal samples to create a very soothing atmosphere. It is definitely my favorite piece on the album due to its creative flair and stunning sound.
The last piece, composed by cittan*, is titled “never enter to your gate (P. Improvisation).” As one might suspect, it is a purely piano tune that is completely improvised. It has a very new age vibe to it, but it definitely manages to showcase a softer side of cittan* and provides a nice relaxing soundscape that would work well in the background.
Summary
The Andromeda EP is a short album, but the music featured has high production values. Both Eguchi and cittan* showcase their talents as well as versatility. However, it may be difficult to find this album given that it was only released during the Spring M3 2014 event in Japan. If you can find it and are fans of their previous works, whether original or doujin remixes, I definitely recommend this album.
