Silent Hills likely to be principally composed in-house
Yesterday, Kojima Productions and Guillermo del Toro unveiled Silent Hills, a sensational reboot of Konami’s psychological horror franchise featuring The Walking Dead‘s Norman Reedus. The trailer for the title included credits for the likely sound team of the title:
The lead members of the Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes were listed in the credits for Silent Hills‘ trailer, namely:
Akihiro Teruta (MGSV – Sound Director)
Hiroyuki Nakayama (MGSV – Sound Designer)
Shunsuke Kanikawa (MGSV – Sound Editor)
Ludvig Forssell (MGSV – Composer)
It is therefore likely that Forssell will be the lead composer of the title. This Sweden-born, Japan-based in-house composer at Kojima Productions has previously worked on Terror of the Stratus in addition to Ground Zeroes.
At this stage, there has been no news about whether the series’ past composers Akira Yamaoka or Daniel Licht will return to the title. It’s possible that, as with Metal Gear Solid V, an external big-name composers may join the project at a later date. The trailer notably featured fragments of Yamaoka’s theme song from the original game, indicating that the soundtrack may pay homage to the series’ roots.
