Hiroki Kikuta releases prog rock and jazz fusion mini-albums
Mana and Shining series composer Hiroki Kikuta has penned several original albums over the years. For his next venture in this field, he will create a series of album releases under the ANGELICFORTRESS brand inspired by his love for progressive rock, jazz fusion, and game music.
To mark the debut of this series, Kikuta released two mini-albums on his Bandcamp today. ANGELICFORTRESS is a progressive rock-style album inspired by Yes, Pink Floyd, and ELP, whereas ANGELICFORTRESS DOUBLE HELIX is a jazz fusion-style album, inspired by Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, Dave Grusin. At 10 USD each, the albums both feature five tracks, complete with some nonsensical titles (e.g. “Dark Schizophrenia”).
On the concepts of these albums, Kikuta notes “I was exposed to an endless catalog of awesome progressive rock and jazz fusion albums throughout high school. It had the biggest impact on the formulation of my view of the musical world. Now I want to mix up these genres with modern day videogame music.” He has confirmed that he is currently in the process of forming an entire band to perform the third album in the series, ANGELICFORTRESS TRISMEGISTUS.
