Gustavo Santaolalla to return for Last of Us sequel

Composer Gustavo Santaolalla has officially been announced as a returning composer for The Last of Us Part II, according to a recent Playstation Experience panel. The game will take place several years after the original, featuring Ellie as the new protagonist.

The teaser trailer (above) features a snippet of the main theme from the first game at the very end, after a bare rendition of Shawn James’ “Through the Valley.” In addition to scoring for the original game, Santaolalla is also known for his work on Brokeback Mountain and Babel, both of which won Academy Awards for Best Original Score.

About the Author

A native and lifelong Texan, I currently work in software education while contributing news, reviews, and interviews to VGMO on the side. I love the feeling that comes with the discovery of a brand new soundtrack, and always look forward to the next rekindling of that excitement. Outside of VGMO, I enjoy playing piano, listening to classical music and film scores, and trying to go unnoticed in any stealth RPG I can find.
