Hosoe and Yonao tipped to contribute to new retro shmup soundtrack
Breaking Bytes launched a crowdfunding campaign today to bring the Japanese-inspired retro shmup XYDONIA to life. Inspired by the likes of R-Type, Gradius and Darius, the developer aims to “bring you a game that looks, sounds and feels exactly like one of those classics, but retaining its own identity at the same time.”
Towards this goal, the game will feature an authentic FM soundtrack created with the Yamaha YM2151 and Sega PCM. While project creator Dario Fantani and sound programmer Luca Della Regina look set to lead the soundtrack, they’ll introduce guest Japanese composers if funding is successfully. Shinji Hosoe (Dragon Spirit) and Keishi Yonao (Mad Stalker) will contribute if the title reaches is funding goal, while Ayako Saso (Galaxian 3) and Yousuke Yasui (Eschatos) are attached for stretch goals.
The campaign is already progressing well towards its relative modest goal. Among the backer rewards are the full digital soundtrack at the 30+ EUR tier and an arranged digital soundtrack at the 40+ EUR tier.
