Heroes of Might and Magic composer announces Kickstarter

Composer Paul Anthony Romero, perhaps most well-known for his work on the Heroes of Might and Magic series, is also a critically acclaimed amateur pianist. Last October, Romero performed at the Poland-based Tofifest Film Festival, elevating his scores into three piano sonatas. Now, Romero has announced a Kickstarter to release a recording of this concert on CD and vinyl. Additionally, if the project successfully reaches is goal of $30,000 by March 27, Romero will release a scorebook of the music performed at the festival, along with the album.

Paul Anthony Romero

Romero, who began his musical journey at a very young age on the piano, went from performing to composing after picking up a gig writing the music for Heroes of Might and Magic: Strategic Quest, the first game in the Might and Magic series, marking the beginning of Romero’s career as a composer. Since then, he has developed the musical legacy of the game series, collecting a fan following in the process, and has worked on several other major projects, including the score for the original EverQuest massively multiplayer online game.

This Kickstarter marks the first opportunity for fans of Romero’s work to hear his own performances officially released on album, and the vinyl option makes this Kickstarter even more unique. Backers of this project will also have the option of receiving rewards ranging from a sample .mp3 of the album with a one dollar pledge to a physical CD, vinyl, scorebook, and a t-shirt – all autographed by Paul Anthony Romero, for a $99 pledge. The Kickstarter page, which also includes photos and descriptions of the objectives and rewards as well as clips from the recording and commentary from Romero, can be found here.
